    1. Program: Fifty Things I Learned While Photographing 50,000 Tombstones with Dina Carson
      6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Speaker Dina Carson (pictured above) will present “Fifty Things I Learend While Photographing 50,000 Tombstones.” Dina has visited many pioneer cemeteries across Colorado and discovered how tombstones are really quite different. She will discuss photographing tombstones, how they’re used as memorials, and how they benefit genelaogists and family historians.

Dina originally became interested in photographing cemeteries when she was trying to locate an ancestor on the Internet, and found that no one had volunteered to photograph the cemeteries of Boulder County. Now about 100,000 photographs later from cemeteries down the street, to Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe, she has developed a real passion for photographing cemeteries. Tonight’s presentation will help you take good photographs at the cemetery, and hopefully be inspired to photograph out-of-the-way cemeteries you encounter in your genealogical research so that others may benefit from your photographs.

Dina’s first foray into genealogy was at age seven when her grandmother got her interested by telling her really good stories which spurred a life-long love for storytelling, genealogy and local history. Dina has owned a publishing company since 1989, focusing on local history, genealogy and reunion planning. Although her formal education is in international law and economics, she has had a life-long passion for genealogy and local history. As a member of the Sesquicentennial Celebration committee, she developed the Boulder 150 website which included an extensive section on Boulder History. Dina currently is the coordinator for the Boulder Pioneers Project – a comprehensive look at the original source materials for Boulder’s pre-Statehood pioneers, from which many books of extractions in indices are planned. When she’s not at a computer working on a publishing project, you can find her photographing the pioneer cemeteries of Colorado.

Visitors are cordially welcome to attend and please bring a relative or friend interested in genealogy or family history!
