March Program: Author Karen Shutte & Her Historical Book “Seed of the Volga”

Popular family history author and multiple award winner for her first novel, Karen Shutte (pictured above) is returning to our society! This is her second book about her Volga German ancestors and follows them from Germany and Russia to America. “SEED of the VOLGA” begins at a castle in the Black Forest of Germany and takes us to the Volga River in Russia, where scores of Germans settled upon invitation from Catherine the Great of Russia in 1765.

This fast-moving story highlights the Steiner family as they struggle through the world wars, economic depression, and the news that their oldest son is listed as MIA in the Philippines. This is a life saga of love, sorrow, and disappointment. You won’t want to miss this exciting story by Karen Shutte! She’ll have her books for sale at our society!

Karen is an author of several family history books and speaker at many societies. She received a bachelor’s degree in Design Marketing at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. She owned and operated Interiors by Karen for twenty-five years. She and husband Michael have four grown sons and numerous grandchildren.

Upon retirement, Karen felt compelled to record her family’s history of German immigration. As the oldest grandchild and great-grandchild on her mother’s side, she dove into the historical research, armed with many family stories. The unexpected result was her first novel, THE TICKET. Because it was so well received, this inspired her to proceed with her second and third novels.

If members can’t attend this program, our society records the program for viewing during the following week. This is a great benefit for our members who can’t attend, are located elsewhere or want to see the program again. Members receive an email with the instructions to access the video for one week.

Public is welcome to attend and encouraged to join our society. Please bring a relative or friend interested in genealogy.
